New to online chess? ChessWorld lets you play with friends or new opponents at your own pace, with time limits from 1 to 15 days per move.

Welcome

As a Guest Member, you can play up to five individual games at any time, and games played in Guest Tournaments do not count against that limit. If you join a four-player All-play-All Guest Tournament, you will have six games in total, three with each colour.

As a Full Member, you can play unlimited games, join more tournaments and teams, and access the full range of ChessWorld features. If you want to compare access levels, the Site Features page is one of the quickest next stops after this Welcome Pack.

What ChessWorld can offer you

ChessWorld is built around thoughtful, relaxed correspondence-style play with opponents from around the world. Whether you are a beginner or a strong experienced player, you can find games that fit your pace and level.

You can play individual games or multi-player tournaments, choose time limits from 1 to 15 days per move, and return whenever it suits your schedule. That slower rhythm gives you time to think, improve, and enjoy the game without blitz pressure.

My Welcomer

As a new member, you are assigned a ChessWorld Welcomer who can help you understand the site, settle into your first games, and answer practical questions as you explore. This is one of the most useful differences between ChessWorld and more anonymous chess platforms.

To find your Welcomer, go to your homepage and look for the Referrer/Welcomer link. If you want to contact them, click their name and use the Leave a Message link on their homepage.

Helpful tip: If your Welcomer is not a good fit for any reason, use your Welcome page and choose the Suggest a Welcomer option. It is better to switch early than to stay stuck with avoidable confusion.

Using ChessWorld

ChessWorld is designed to be easy to navigate once you understand the main menu structure. Roll over the menubar headings, choose the area you want, and use the ChessWorld logo whenever you want to jump back toward the playing area.

If you need help, you have three main support routes. Ask your Welcomer, search the FAQ pages, or contact the HelpDesk for confidential support from the admin team.

  • Welcomer: Good for first-step questions and site guidance.
  • FAQ library: Good for common setup, feature, and rule questions.
  • HelpDesk: Good for account, technical, or unresolved problems.

Playing in your first tournament

Starting your first tournament may sound like a big step, but the process is simple once you know where to look. New members can usually enter the four-player Guest Tournament route and begin with a manageable first experience.

If you are already on a play page, look to the row of small icons and find the tournament entry route that takes you to the mini-tournaments page. When you join a four-player All-play-All event, remember that you will have six games in total, three as White and three as Black.

Important: In those tournament games, you must make the first move in your White games. If you do not know where those boards are, go to Play ... Current Games and open the game number that is waiting for you.

Using the Play page message boxes

Each play page gives you two message areas: a smaller box near the board and a larger box lower down the page. The larger box is especially useful if you want to write a longer message or preview simple HTML formatting before sending.

You can also add smileys through the built-in selector. These message boxes are useful both for friendly conversation and for asking your opponent or Welcomer practical site-related questions.

Sending messages to another member

You can send a direct message to any member by visiting their homepage and clicking the Leave a Message link. Once sent, the message appears in their inbox and a copy is visible in your outbox.

If you want to keep an important message for future reference, store a copy in your own Notepad before deleting anything from your outbox. That gives you a permanent personal record under your own control.

Making sure that you get all of our emails

Critical: Visit My Stuff ... My Email and make sure your settings allow ChessWorld emails through. If the wrong option is enabled, you may miss move notifications, tournament messages, and other important updates.

Action: Add ChessWorld to your safe senders list as well. That reduces the chance of important messages being filtered or suppressed.

ChessWorld uses your registered email address for password recovery, move alerts, and support communication. If your email address changes, update it promptly so your account stays usable and secure.

Do you have your own website?

If you run your own website, you can potentially earn free ChessWorld membership time by linking to ChessWorld. When a visitor comes from your site and later becomes a Full Member, qualifying bonus time can be credited to your account.

This is optional, but it is worth knowing if you have an existing audience or community site and want a simple way to offset subscription cost.

ChessWorld Help & Quick Answers

These answers cover the most common first-step questions about login, first games, tournaments, messages, membership, and support.

Login & Account Access

How do I log in to ChessWorld?

You log in to ChessWorld by using the main login link and entering your account details correctly. Your username or email and password must match the account stored on the site. Use the Looking for ChessWorld Login? box above and then move straight into the Quick Start section to begin playing.

Why can I not log in to ChessWorld?

You usually cannot log in because your password, email address, or saved account details are incorrect. Even one wrong character can block access to your account and prevent password recovery from reaching you. Use the Making sure that you get all of our emails section above and then contact Help if access still fails.

What should I do if I do not get a ChessWorld password email?

You should first check your spam or junk folder and confirm that your registered email address is still active. Password reset and move notification delivery both depend on your email settings working properly. Read Making sure that you get all of our emails above and then use the FAQs or HelpDesk route in Useful links.

Is ChessWorld free to use?

ChessWorld can be used for free as a Guest Member, but some features are reserved for Full Members. Guest access includes a meaningful starting set of games and entry-level site use before any upgrade decision. Read Welcome above and then compare access in the Site Features link in Useful links.

Is ChessWorld the same as LetsPlayChess?

Older players may still search with legacy naming, but the current platform you should use is ChessWorld. The important practical step is to use the live ChessWorld account route and current support pages rather than depend on old bookmarks. Use the Looking for ChessWorld Login? box above and then continue with the Welcome section.

Getting Started

What should I do first after joining ChessWorld?

You should first make sure you can log in, find your Welcomer, and understand where your current games will appear. Those three steps remove most of the confusion that new members feel in their first session. Follow the Quick Start section above and then read My Welcomer and Using ChessWorld in order.

What is my Welcomer on ChessWorld?

Your Welcomer is an experienced ChessWorld member assigned to help you settle into the site. Welcomers guide new members through first games, basic navigation, and common practical questions. Read My Welcomer above and then use the Leave a Message route described there to make contact.

How do I find my Welcomer?

You find your Welcomer by going to your homepage and using the Referrer/Welcomer link. That link takes you directly to the correct member page so you can identify and contact the right person. Open My Welcomer above and then follow the homepage path described there.

Can I change my Welcomer?

You can request a different Welcomer if the original match is not working for you. ChessWorld includes a Suggest a Welcomer option because a good early guide matters for confidence and retention. Read My Welcomer above and then use the Welcome page option described there.

What can Guest Members do on ChessWorld?

Guest Members can play individual games, use important parts of the site, and begin exploring tournaments and community features. The key practical limit is that Guest Members do not have the same unrestricted access as Full Members. Read Welcome above and then compare the details in the Site Features link in Useful links.

Games & Tournaments

How do I start my first game on ChessWorld?

You can start your first game by following the new-member routes into current games or a guest tournament. The simplest first experience is often the guided tournament path because it immediately gives you live boards to use. Read Playing in your first tournament above and then use Play ... Current Games to find the boards waiting for you.

How many games can a Guest Member play?

Guest Members can play up to five individual games at one time. Guest Tournament games do not count against that separate individual-game limit, which is why newcomers can briefly see a larger total. Read Welcome above and then use Playing in your first tournament to understand how the extra guest event games fit in.

How do I join my first tournament?

You join your first tournament by following the guest mini-tournament route from the play area when that option is available to you. Newcomers are usually guided toward the four-player guest format because it is simple and manageable. Open Playing in your first tournament above and then follow the icon route described there.

Why do I have six games in a four-player guest tournament?

You have six games because a four-player All-play-All means you face three opponents with both colours. That creates three White games and three Black games in one event. Read Playing in your first tournament above and then use Play ... Current Games to make sure none of your White boards are waiting for the first move.

Where do I find games waiting for my move?

You find games waiting for your move through the Play menu and the current games list. That page is your practical control room for open boards, pending turns, and immediate action. Use Playing in your first tournament above and then go to Play ... Current Games exactly as described.

Menus & Navigation

What does the Play menu do?

The Play menu takes you to your live chess activity, including current games, completed games, teams, and tournaments. It is the fastest route back into actual play after login. Read Using the ChessWorld menubar above and then use Play as your main daily starting point.

What does the My Stuff menu do?

The My Stuff menu is your personal control panel for settings, statistics, holiday bookings, and account-related preferences. Many of the practical fixes that solve new-member confusion live there, especially email and profile settings. Read Using the ChessWorld menubar above and then visit Making sure that you get all of our emails for the most urgent setting check.

What does the Help menu do?

The Help menu gives you access to FAQs, the HelpDesk, and your private HelpDesk replies. It is the right place to go when a problem is specific, technical, or still unresolved after reading the starter guidance. Read Using the ChessWorld menubar above and then use Useful links if you want the fastest support routes collected in one place.

Where should I go after logging in for the first time?

You should usually go to your homepage, find your Welcomer, and then check whether any current games or tournament boards are waiting. Those steps give you both a human guide and a practical next move. Follow the Quick Start section above and then read My Welcomer and Playing in your first tournament.

Can I use ChessWorld on a mobile device?

You can use ChessWorld on mobile, but you should still make sure you know where the Play, Help, and Logout routes sit in the menu. Mobile use changes screen shape, not the core correspondence workflow of checking boards and replying when ready. Read Using the ChessWorld menubar above and then use Play as your main navigation anchor.

Messages & Emails

How do I message my opponent during a game?

You can message your opponent by using the message boxes on the play page. ChessWorld provides both a smaller quick box and a larger lower box for longer notes. Read Using the Play page message boxes above and then use the larger box if you want more room or preview support.

How do I send a message to another member?

You send a message to another member by visiting their homepage and using the Leave a Message link. A sent copy appears in your outbox so you can confirm what you sent and whether you still want to keep a record. Read Sending messages to another member above and then store important copies in your Notepad if needed.

Can I preview a message before sending it?

You can preview certain message formatting by using the larger lower message box on the play page. That box is especially helpful when a message is longer or uses simple HTML formatting. Read Using the Play page message boxes above and then use the larger message area for anything you want to check first.

Why am I not getting ChessWorld emails?

You are usually not getting ChessWorld emails because your settings or mail filtering are blocking delivery. Move alerts, password resets, and support replies all depend on your registered address working correctly. Read Making sure that you get all of our emails above and then update your email settings in My Stuff.

Should I add ChessWorld to my safe senders list?

You should add ChessWorld to your safe senders list if you want more reliable delivery of move notifications and account emails. Safe sender handling reduces the chance that important messages disappear into spam filtering or provider suppression. Read Making sure that you get all of our emails above and then make that change before you rely on tournament or move alerts.

Membership, Learning & Support

Where do I change my email settings on ChessWorld?

You change your email settings through My Stuff ... My Email. That area controls how ChessWorld communicates with you and whether important messages can reach you normally. Read Making sure that you get all of our emails above and then open My Stuff ... My Email straight away.

What is the difference between Guest and Full Membership?

The main difference is that Full Membership opens the full range of games, tournaments, teams, and site features, while Guest access is a more limited starting level. Guest access is still enough to learn the system and begin playing before deciding whether to expand. Read Welcome above and then compare the full detail through the Site Features link in Useful links.

Can I play unlimited games on ChessWorld?

You can play unlimited games as a Full Member, not as a Guest Member. That distinction matters once you begin enjoying the site and want a broader playing schedule. Read Welcome above and then use the Site Features link in Useful links to compare what changes with Full Membership.

How do I play chess online with friends on ChessWorld?

You can play chess online with friends by finding the right member routes and starting games through the site's normal play and message system. ChessWorld is built for correspondence-style play, so you and your friends can reply when convenient instead of sitting through one live session. Read What ChessWorld can offer you above and then use Using ChessWorld and Useful links to move into the right area.

Can I use ChessWorld if I have my own website?

You can, and you may even be able to earn bonus membership time by linking your own website to ChessWorld. The practical benefit depends on visitors from your site later becoming Full Members through that route. Read Do you have your own website? above and then follow the linking information described there.

Where can I find more help on ChessWorld?

You can find more help through the FAQ library, the User Guide, the Welcome Page, the Welcome Pack Videos, and the HelpDesk. Different support routes solve different problems, so using the right one saves time and frustration. Open Useful links above and choose the route that matches whether you need quick answers, deeper guidance, or private support.

Which page should I read after the Welcome Pack?

The best next page for most members is the User Guide because it goes further into opponents, tools, styles of play, and site systems. The Welcome Pack gets you moving, while the User Guide helps you use ChessWorld more effectively once the basics are clear. Use Useful links above and open the User Guide entry as your next study step.

What if I still need help after reading the Welcome Pack?

If you still need help, you should use the HelpDesk or ask your Welcomer directly. That gives you either private admin support or a human guide who already understands the new-member journey. Read Using ChessWorld above and then use the support routes collected in Useful links.
